Amsterdam. Portuguese Sephardic Synagogue of 1654.
During our trip to the Netherlands we explored the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam including the Jewish Museum and the Portuguese Sephardic Synagogue. We came in search of documentation about our Semah de Valencia family.
The Jewish diaspora. Built by Sephardic Jews who emigrated to escape persecution in the Iberian Peninsula, the synagogue reflects their resilience and devotion. This place of worship has served as a beacon of faith and community for generations, preserving Sephardic traditions in its architecture and liturgy. Its rich history makes it an important heritage site for the global Jewish community and a place of cultural and tourist interest.
See our post about the Jewish Historical Museum. We found information about our Semah de Valencia Family in several books.
