The Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, Scotland

The Palace of Holyroodhouse, commonly known as Holyrood Palace, is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. Located at the end of Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, opposite Edinburgh Castle, the palace has served as a royal residence for centuries.

Originally founded as an Augustinian abbey in 1128, the site was transformed into a royal palace in the 16th century. It has been the setting for significant historical events, including the tumultuous reign of Mary, Queen of Scots. Today, it is used by the monarchy for official engagements and state ceremonies in Scotland.

Visitors to the palace can explore its grand state apartments, historical chambers, and the ruins of Holyrood Abbey, all surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. The palace's rich history and architectural splendor make it a key attraction in Edinburgh.

We visited the Palace of Holyroodhouse during our attendance to 2016 Blair Atholl Scottish Jamborette.
