Budapest - St. Teresa of Avila Parish Church.
Avilai Nagy Szent Teréz Plebaniatemplom
Churches we know. It was a great surprise to find a church dedicated to St. Teresa of Avila in Budapest. This building has a beautiful altar piece and a relic of Saint John Paul II. This Late Baroque and Neoclassical landmark, constructed between 1801 and 1809, was refined by the famous Mihály Pollack and later topped with a spire by Miklós Ybl. Standing at 65 meters with a mechanical tower clock and a fire-watching balcony, it houses a monumental altar painting of the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa and serves as a vital historical anchor in the Terézváros district. Originally a humble wooden chapel dedicated to the Holy Spirit, the site was renamed in 1822 to honor Empress Maria Theresa and now serves as a place of contemporary pilgrimage due to its unique relics. #PostcardsToShare #ChurchesWeKnow #AbuelosMochileros_Budapest
