La Percée D' Avranches, Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy, France.

The Avranches Breakthrough refers to a pivotal event during World War II, which occurred in late July 1944 as part of the broader Normandy Campaign. After the successful D-Day landings, Allied forces struggled to break out of the heavily fortified Normandy region, which was fiercely defended by German troops. The Avranches Breakthrough marked the turning point in this phase of the campaign.

It began on July 25, 1944, when American forces under General Omar Bradley launched Operation Cobra, a major offensive aimed at breaking through the German defensive lines west of Saint-Lô. After a week of intense fighting, U.S. forces achieved a breakthrough near the town of Avranches, located at the base of the Cotentin Peninsula. The successful advance opened the way for rapid movement into Brittany and the rest of northern France.
