UK, Gibraltar, 2017

Gibraltar is a territory which is located on the southern end of the Iberian peninsula, to the East of the Bay of Algeciras, and this is extended over the geological formation of the rock of Gibraltar (the Rock of Gibraltar). Gibraltar lies off Africa, and in its point narrower are separated by 14.4 kilometers of ocean at the Strait of Gibraltar.
We went to Gibraltar from Fuengirola (Spain) invited by a Boy Scout friend of José that he met in Scotland in 2016. This visit was very interesting by crossing the border between Spain and Gibraltar because the Gibraltar International Airport, which sits at the tip of the territory's northern border with Spain, has a busy highway bisecting its runway. On the other side of the border, the friend of Jose was waiting for us and took us in his truck to visit the rock and its surroundings. Very interesting to know the history and geography of Gibraltar and all its features. According to Lorena Arroyo and Paul Esparza BBC world... "Gibraltar is the meeting point between two continents - Africa and Europe - and between two seas - the Mediterranean Sea and the ocean Atlantic, subject of dispute between the two countries - Spain and the United Kingdom-, but also home to 30,000 inhabitants, who speak a dialect" unique, unique monkeys released in Europe, one of the most peculiar airports of the world and above all is a meeting place of cultures".

2026 update
Postcards
to Share. We crossed the Spain-Gibraltar border and now it is going to
change. After years of grueling post-Brexit negotiations, a major UK-EU
treaty just went into provisional application this week on July 15,
2026. It completely alters how the border with Spain functions.
The
physical fence at La Línea de la Concepción is coming down. Instead of
the historical land-border bottleneck that used to cause hours of
gridlock for commuters, the land crossing is turning into a seamless
walkthrough zone. #abuelosmochileros_gibraltar
